My Riding experience of Cal 7
I’ve spent a few days riding around on this cal 7 skateboard and I think the easiest way to review this board is to go piece by piece and give you my rating on a scale of 1 to 10 for that piece and then I’ll give you a final overall rating for the board as a complete.
So let’s start with the grip tape, the grip tape on this board is lacking some grip and some grittiness so why is that a bad thing well when your grip tape doesn’t have a lot of grittiness to it It can cause you to slide around on your skateboard. It may hold you in place while you’re cruising around but if you land a trick it’s more likely you’re gonna slide off the board sure. I guess the grip tape serves its purpose I wasn’t sliding around too much it’s definitely better than a Walmart board or a target board. But it still isn’t anything to brag about if you are using the skateboard just for cruising around and I do mean just for cruising around. I’m sure this grip tape would get the job done but I don’t think it’s ideal for doing tricks so overall I’d give this grip tape a 6 out of 10.
So now let’s move on and talk about the skateboard deck I really wanted this skateboard deck to be good and here’s the thing it’s not terrible it’s just also great honestly. The biggest positive I have about this deck is how much pop was on the board. If you’re a beginner skateboarder pop just means how easy it is to get the board off the ground. I was genuinely pretty shocked when I did my first ollie on this skateboard and I got quite a bit of air.
So you’re just gonna have to take my word on this one when I was riding around on the cal 7 skateboard and then I would hop over back to my current setup I could Instantly feel a difference in the quality of wood. I’m using just feels a little bit more sturdy and it has a little bit more weight to it which just makes it feel a bit better to ride around on. I’ve been skateboarding for over 15 years and when you’ve been skating that long it’s very easy to tell when you hop on a board that something just feels off another thing I noticed about the cal 7 skateboard is that it squeaks like no one’s business which is usually another sign that it’s lower quality wood.
I mean it’s not super bad if your skateboard squeaks every board squeaks a little bit but this was like excessive squeaking take a listen yourself. Overall I’d probably give the cal 7 skateboard deck a 7 out of 10. It has some pop to it which is nice.
let’s move on to the trucks honestly the trucks on this cal 7 skateboard are probably the biggest highlight of this complete most cheaper skateboard completes using plastic trucks for their boards. The cal 7 board actually uses metal trucks which is a huge positive. I did have to tighten the trucks just a little bit when I got the board but that’s more of a personal preference I ain’t taking off any points on that one cruising around with these trucks did feel pretty natural and comparing them to my tensor trucks on my current setup. They’re not bad these trucks definitely don’t give off the appearance or feeling that these are a part of a cheaper complete setup the trucks are definitely a highlight of this cal 7 complete. Overall I’m gonna give the trucks an 8 out of 10 ratings.
So now let’s move on to those spinning boys some people call them wheels like many other parts with this cal 7 complete the wheels aren’t the great wheels in the world but they’re just not bad. I really got a sense of the quality of the wheels when I did a revert on my skateboard if you’re new to skateboarding a revert is when you do a 180 on the ground to change. The way you’re facing on your skateboard when I did a reverb with this cal 7 board it kind of felt like I was just like rubbing rubber against concrete the spin time on these wheels and bearings isn’t too bad, especially after the concerns I had during the unboxing but I would say average. So overall I’d give the wheels and bearings up 7 out of 10.
Let’s move on so, in a nutshell, are cal 7 skateboards worth your time and money here is the thing the cal 7 skateboards are good. Overall I give this skateboard 7 out of 10 stars.
